I’ve been observing how music artists within the Hip Hop community ‘brand’ themselves. 50 Cent is an expert at it. From his “beefs” with other artists to his recent challenge to Kanye West, 50 knows how to get himself in the news. Another thing I’ve noticed is a new movement of dancing. A lot of artists have been making up dances to coincide with the songs they release. This is very similar to a viral campaign.

The song catches on.
People learn the dance.
They do the dance while out a bar or club.
Other people learn the dance.
Spreads like wildfire.

Here’s a great example. Soulja Boy released a music video and a video that teaches people how to do the dance. Genius. 4.5 million hits and counting. And, oh yeah, it cost him barely nothing.
